Sandy Recovery Resources

  1. Residents living in the 100-year flood zone no longer require a “Substantial Damage” (ICC) letter to qualify for house lifting or repairs through NY Rising.  Homeowners may now be either in the 100-year flood plain OR have received a “Substantial Damage” letter to benefit from this program.

  2. The three-year limit to stay in the repaired home as primary resident has been removed!  There are no liens, or obligation to repay the grant once the work has been completed. Homeowners may now stay in their homes as long or as short as they want.  They can sell or rent their homes without penalty and repayments.

  3. Those homeowners who wish to use their own contractors for future repairs should urge their contractors to register officially with NY Rising immediately.  Once registered and approved, these contractors may secure additional work from others in need of their services.

  4. Although no official deadline has been set, those who have not applied should do so as soon as possible.  Visit www.stormrecovery.ny.gov for more details.  People can register online or visit a NYRising service center listed on the website. As you can expect, sooner or later there will be a deadline.  Don’t wait, act now!
