Water
It is the goal of the Water Department to meet and or exceed all Health Department and EPA standards in providing the best tasting water in the country.
Service Area
The Incorporated Village of Freeport Water System provides water to a population of approximately 40,000 residents through approximately 10,000 services in an area of about 4.93 square miles within the village boundaries.
Source
The Water Department draws its water supply from eight operating wells that have been drilled into Magothy Aquifer at depths ranging from 500 feet to 640 feet. This aquifer, which was originally created by the action of a glacier, is held in place by sand and pressure of the ocean water that surrounds Long Island. Quantities of water presently available exceed the existing and projected demands of our customers and the water quality is rated excellent.
The water, after chemical treatment, is pumped into two elevated storage tanks. Water flows by gravity from each storage tank into the 125 miles of the distribution (piping) system.
